FIRE FIGHTING
FIRE Not combustible but enhances combustion of other substances. Many reactions may cause fire or explosion.
NO contact with combustibles.
In case of fire in the surroundings: water in large amounts, water spray.
EXPLOSION Risk of fire and explosion as a result of spark, impact, sunlight, heating or contact with combustible materials.
Closed system, ventilation, explosion-proof electrical equipment and lighting. Do NOT expose to friction or shock.
In case of fire: keep drums, etc., cool by spraying with water. Combat fire from a sheltered position.
EXPOSURE
AVOID ALL CONTACT!
IN ALL CASES CONSULT A DOCTOR!
  • INHALATION
    		• Corrosive. Cough. Headache. Laboured breathing. Nausea. Shortness of breath. Sore throat. Symptoms may be delayed (see Notes).
    		Ventilation, local exhaust, or breathing protection. Closed system and ventilation.
    		Fresh air, rest. Half-upright position. Artificial respiration if indicated. Refer for medical attention.
  • SKIN
    		• Corrosive. Redness. Serious skin burns. Pain.
    		Protective gloves. Protective clothing.
    		First rinse with plenty of water, then remove contaminated clothes and rinse again. Refer for medical attention.
  • EYES
    		• Corrosive. Redness. Pain. Blurred vision.
    		Safety goggles or eye protection in combination with breathing protection.
    		First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
  • INGESTION



    • SPILLAGE DISPOSAL STORAGE PACKAGING & LABELLING
    Evacuate danger area! Consult an expert! Ventilation. Remove gas with fine water spray (extra personal protection: complete protective clothing including self-contained breathing apparatus).
    		Separated from combustible and reducing substances. Cool. Ventilation along the floor.

    PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
     RED-YELLOW GAS , WITH PUNGENT ODOUR.

    PHYSICAL DANGERS:
     The gas is heavier than air.

    CHEMICAL DANGERS:
     May explosively decompose on shock, friction, or concussion. May explode on heating. The substance is a strong oxidant and reacts violently with combustible and reducing materials. Reacts violently with mercury, phosphorus, sulfur and many compounds, causing fire and explosion hazard. Reacts with water producing hydrochloric acid and chloric acid.

    OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS (OELs):
     TLV (as TWA): 0.1 ppm; 0.28 mg/m3 (ACGIH 1992-1993).
    TLV (as STEL): 0.3 ppm; 0.83 mg/m3 (skin) (ACGIH 1992-1993).


    		ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
     The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation.

    INHALATION RISK:
     A harmful concentration of this gas in the air will be reached very quickly on loss of containment.

    EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
     Tear drawing. The substance is corrosive to the eyes, the skin and the respiratory tract. Inhalation of gas may cause lung oedema (see Notes). Exposure far above the OEL may result in death. The effects may be delayed. Medical observation is indicated.

    EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
     The substance may have effects on the lungs , resulting in chronic bronchitis. The substance may have effects on the teeth, resulting in erosion.

         		This substance may be hazardous to the environment; special attention should be given to water organisms.
    NOTES
    Depending on the degree of exposure, periodic medical examination is indicated. The symptoms of lung oedema often do not become manifest until a few hours have passed and they are aggravated by physical effort. Rest and medical observation are therefore essential. Immediate administration of an appropriate spray, by a doctor or a person authorized by him/her, should be considered. Rinse contaminated clothes (fire hazard) with plenty of water.
